Music

Choose a subject:

Musicians at Front Lawn will perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of genres and styles, including the works of the great composers and musicians.  They will learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others.  They will have an understanding of how music is created, produced and communicated.

Content and Sequencing

  • Music is taught through regular dashboards and Music Big Days.
  • Evidence of work is stored in class scrapbooks and in All about… music information books that classes make.

Retrieval Practise

Music Dashboard – These provide an in depth look at the artists we have selected for the children to study.

Opportunities are provided for the children to respond to and share their opinions of music, musicians and genres.  There are also opportunities to understand, read and create music notation using formal notation and their own symbols.

Every child attends a singing assembly every week.

Assessment in Music

Music is assessed each Term.  Teachers identify who is exceeding expectations and children

who are not meeting the expected standard.  Teachers will be mindful of any significant groups who are not making progress and ensure they keep a close eye on them the following term.

More Able Musicians

The more able Musicians at Front Lawn are offered a ‘creative trip’ .  This year we have planned for them to visit a theatre for a ’behind the scenes’ look and a chance to try out the stage.

Learning Environments

We ensure our learning environments are immersive and topic driven.  They will display the artist we are currently listening to.
